The special nature of implant dentistry lies in the possibility of creating a second foundation base to achieve the desired prosthodontic outcome. Consequently, it is important to assess and ascertain the patient's anatomical as well as psychological needs and wants. The prosthesis may be fixed or removable for the completely edentulous patient, whereas fixed restorations are preferred for most partially edentulous patients.
