Kai's battle with Riven drew too much attention, and now the Guild wants answers. How was he able to break his cursed runes? How has he survived this long? Is he just lucky, or is there something more nefarious at work?

The Guild sends Kai to Caerwyn Sanctum, to a new archmage. Archmage Sylvara has a reputation for researching magical anomalies and solving puzzles with a firm hand-and Kai is her newest challenge.

But when misplaced trust and swift betrayal results in the escape of five cursed mages with the power to destroy entire cities, Kai's training is put on hold while he helps bring them back. At least, that's what he thinks. It's not long before the mission goes sideways.

Is this a real emergency? Or could Sylvara be using this as a trap to tempt him into exposing himself as a timeshifter?

If he's going to survive, he must keep it a secret... but what if timeshifting is his only hope of survival?
