I began writing poetry in my 3rd Grade Library class. Our teacher Miss Nicholas read us poetry and stories and we read and enjoyed the books she had collected for the school. We recited poems and wrote them each semester over 4 years. It made our words truly come alive and want to write. At the end of every year she put together an anthology for each grade that we all got to take home. The thrill of writing song lyrics and the poems you find in this collection date back 50 years to a few poems that were written during my college days as well. Some are in a more classical rhyming style and some are free style. Some may make you laugh, some are serious, others easy going and some pretty hard edged. My inspiration comes from everyday life, relationships, from nature, work, something I've read or seen or just moments that appear out of the blue. Hopefully, several will make you laugh, think, tighten your brow, smile or ask some of the same questions I have about being human.
