$ 21.05"Secler SpaceOdyssey" is a hilarious and gritty sci-fi satire that reimagines the "Szekler" (Székely) rural identity within the context of deep space exploration. The story follows the journal entries of Captain Bendegúz Kovács, the reluctant leader of the "SSS Space-Wheelbarrow" (ESZSZ Űrtalicska), a vessel that is as much a flying outhouse as it is a spaceship.
The narrative is driven by the Captain's desperate attempt to maintain his sanity while managing a completely dysfunctional and eccentric crew. From the "panty-tearing" handsome but useless Mózi to the simple-minded but loyal Ferenc, the crew represents a raw, unpolished, and often alcohol-fueled version of humanity. The ship's AI, Margitka, adds to the chaos with her sarcastic remarks and tendency to gossip, acting more like a judgmental neighbor than a helpful computer system.
The plot blends classic space opera tropes with "Eastern European" rural realism. Instead of high-tech diplomacy and sleek interfaces, we see the crew organizing a "pálinka-fueled bacon roast" in the hangar, founding the "Second Szekler Republic" on a whim, and singing traditional folk songs while drifting at the edge of the Solar System. The humor is dark, often crude, and deeply self-ironic, highlighting the contrast between the vast, silent void of space and the loud, messy, and stubborn nature of the Szekler spirit.
At its core, the book is an existential comedy about survival. It explores how cultural identity persists even in the most extreme conditions-not through noble ideals, but through shared habits, stubbornness, and a healthy dose of homemade spirits. It is a story where the stars themselves seem to pause just to witness the absurdity of a space-wheelbarrow full of Szeklers trying to find their way through the cosmos.
