Lisa Wingate nació en Alemania en 1965, aunque creció en Oklahoma, Estados Unidos, donde se formó en Inglés y Comunicaciones. Tras trabajar durante unos años como periodista se dedica a impartir conferencias y a escribir. Vive en las Montañas Ouachita del suroeste de Arkansas junto a su marido y sus hijos.

Su pasión por la escritura se manifestó desde muy pequeña y, gracias al apoyo de una de sus profesoras, Wingate siguió dando vida a sus historias con la esperanza de que un día alguien las leyera.

En 2001 publicó su primer libro, Tending Roses, al que han seguido más de veinte novelas de gran éxito en Estados Unidos. Por ellas la autora ha recibido premios como el Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize, el Oklahoma Book Award, el Christy Award o el Carol Award, entre muchos otros.
