Reseña del libro "Simple Machines (en Inglés)"

Fiction. Master Sergeant Joseph Cevera is a respected man, decorated hero and feared leader of one of the most highly trained and lethal army units in the Afghanistan conflict. What happens when the unbreakable is broken? We see this erupting world through the eyes of a seasoned warrior as he is pushed to the edge of his humanity. SIMPLE MACHINES takes us deep into the interior of the American Army Ranger and the volatile combat zone of the Special Ops Team during a hundred days of deployment. This is a war novel with the rush of battle, agony of loss, and courage of the undefeated. It is not for the faint of heart or those who look romantically at war and heroes. The stark reality of life and death choices made during battle depict an anti-hero damaged and questioning the price he and his men are asked to pay. This is a novel about men (the "Simple Machines") and their experiences in a brutal war. The one here is the American soldiers in Mogadishu when that was the hot battleground. It is written by a former soldier who served in this war for more than one deployment. The book is told thru the eyes and mind of the sargeant/major of the platoon and usually in the first person. It is brutal, traumatic and absolutely gripping. It never loses your interest and constantly presents images in pristine detail that is deeply disturbing while not forcing you to turn away. It is a lesson that we should all hear, share and react to so we know what it is we are speaking about when we discuss our home-coming men and women and what horrors they have seen and have participated. It is not didactic nor preachy. It is hard-hitting and graphic. I couldn't put it down.
