Reseña del libro "Some Call It a Journey (en Inglés)"
Some Call It a Journey is an audacious collection of autobiographical poems exploring the mystery of living with serious illness. It takes courage to accept a diagnosis of a life-threatening disease. There is disbelief, anger, and fear, for our bodies have seemingly betrayed us, bringing seismic shifts of emotion that accompany the before, during, and after of treatment. This is especially true when the patient must submit to such body-altering surgery as a double mastectomy. Here is the mysterious "wasteland / [the poet] must traverse" to arrive at new understandings of her body, her relationships - indeed, life itself. From the hard work of accepting what is now the "sawtooth / of pare and scrape and suture" of her "body's revised landscape," Heitmann ultimately grows to see herself anew as a "little sparrow / - coffee-brown back-feathered." Heitmann has written a stirring memoir in verse.-Maria Rouphail, author, This small house, this big skyThis is poetry as physical therapy, as occupational therapy, as relationship therapy, as survival therapy, giving form (pantoum, zuihitsu, cento) to what can hardly be named, touched, imagined as real. Whether it's cancer or some other twenty-first century ravager of health, it's a practice that can help each of us. Heitmann opens a door some of us are lucky enough not to have to enter, but all of us should look through, not only so that we can be better prepared, but also so that we can better understand those whose lives are changed by what happens inside.-Scott Owens, Poet Laureate, Hickory, NC
