A whimsical look at a serious problem. Imagine a world much like ours. One where global warming reaches a tipping point, political attitudes become more polarized, and wealth accumulates in fewer hands. Add fertility crises in the developed countries, more frequent global pandemics, a breakdown in world trade, disintegrating financial order, and autocratic regimes bent on territorial aggression. Sound familiar? Throw into this mix magical folk in hidden forests who realize the seriousness of the situation and vow to tackle it. Now, we have a saving grace that doesn't exist on Earth. At least, I don't think it does. That's the setting for this allegorical novella. Will the elves, fairies, and gnomes in the hidden forest save their world from the chaos the alphas, the dominant humanoid species, are generating? Melian is the leader of the hidden folk. She co-opts Ethan Johnson, and several other alphas who recognize the need for action, into their epic battle.
