Time travel was a complete mystery to Evelyn Cross. The first time it happened, she had no idea why and absolutely no control over it. Travelling back to the 12th century, she experienced a myriad of adventures - some exciting, most dangerous. She had survived her ordeals with the help of some new friends. Not only was it a time of adapting to a new historical period whilst keeping her own a secret, it was also a journey of self-discovery and an awakening of her own capabilities. Eventually, she had accepted life in the Dark Ages.
Now it was happening all over again and she felt helpless and even less prepared than previously. She had returned to the 21st century to a very emotional and confusing period of her life, finding it harder to adapt to her own time than she could ever have imagined. Finally, finding the confidence to venture out and about, she is once again transported in time.
Arriving in the 8th century, conditions are primitive and harsh and she finds herself a captive of the brutal Norsemen. To ensure their survival and dominance they are capable of savage violence. Their way of life and language are alien to her and she feels isolated and afraid. Regressing in age, she is at least thankful to have youth and stamina on her side. However, she is anxious about her fate. What happens when this stamina no longer supports her resistance to illness, fatigue and hardship? What will the Norsemen do with her then? Just how many times will portions of her life be repeated? Can she endure physically and, more to the point, can she survive mentally?
This is a sequel to Evie's initial time travelling in Knightmare but it can also be enjoyed as a standalone adventure.
