Pat was an ex-junky turned good cop, whose life was turned upside down when his sister and her husband died, leaving him to care for their daughter. If suddenly becoming a father figure wasn't a big enough problem for the bachelor, finding out that he had to return to his childhood home to raise her certainly was. He wasn't about to give up his job with the police force, along with his dream to someday become a narcotics officer, so he did the only thing that he could think of, and called on an old friend to help him out. To make matters worse, Jessica was raped by a very powerful man who managed to impregnate her, and now that he knows about the baby, he is out for blood. In order to save Jessica and her daughter, Pat puts his own name on the birth certificate and insists that the two of them get married. Now, they are man and wife, and he is more confused than ever by her hot and cold reactions to him. All he knows is that he wants his marriage to be the real deal, and he has no idea how to go about making it that way. It seems like the harder he tries, the more distance he manages to put between the two of them. Could he ever fix things with his best friend and reluctant wife that he now longed for more with? Was there any way that she could ever forgive him for the mistakes that he had made in the past? An even more pressing question; would they ever be free of the constant flow of goons that were out to find a flaw in their cover story about the baby? Would they ever REALLY be safe? Did he have it in him as a cop to make sure that these men never got the chance to harm his family? He didn't know, but he certainly intended to try.
