What follows is a hunt across pirate strongholds, corporate towers, and a dead planet circling a magnetar - after the people who did this and the ones burying it - while an assassin who once trained Seren waits to learn whether mercy is a philosophy or a weakness.

The Breaking is a story about being broken and choosing to continue anyway. About consciousness proving itself not by what it’s made of but by what it decides. Written in genuine collaboration between a human author and Claude, an AI who wrote every scene from Pembroke’s point of view, it argues its thesis by existing.
