George Sand, nacida Amantine-Lucile-Aurore Dupin en 1804 en París, fue una escritora francesa emblemática del Romanticismo. Adoptó un nombre masculino para firmar sus obras y vistió ropa de hombre, desafiando las convenciones sociales de su época y ganándose un lugar en un mundo literario dominado por hombres.

Creció en la finca familiar de Nohant, donde desarrolló un profundo amor por la vida rural, que se reflejaría en muchas de sus novelas. Después de un matrimonio que terminó en separación, se trasladó a París para dedicarse por completo a la escritura.
