Reseña del libro "The Dumb Actor (en Inglés)"

What happens when an actor stops trying to make something happen? In The Dumb Actor: My Experience with Demidov Training and the Developing Actor-Creator, playwright, actor, director, and theatre educator Drew Hardaway recounts his encounter with the work of Nikolai Demidov through his graduate training with Andrei Malaev-Babel at the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.Hardaway examines the discipline of allowing: the preparation of an actor who can receive circumstances, respond to a partner, and trust the first creative impulse without immediately arranging its result. Drawing upon his own training and subsequent years in the theatre classroom and rehearsal studio, he considers how these principles might reach actors while their understanding of the craft is still developing. The book moves from the preparation of the actor and the training space through breath, Lost Body, the actor's scales, études, character circumstances, rehearsal, and performance. Along the way, Hardaway offers personal accounts, practical exercises, and questions for actors and educators to carry into their own work.Part practitioner memoir and part pedagogical reflection, The Dumb Actor is an invitation to reconsider what rigorous preparation makes possible when the actor is finally willing to leave themselves alone.
