Es hijo de los también autores Stephen King y Tabitha King, aunque adoptó un seudónimo para forjar su propia identidad literaria. Su obra se enmarca principalmente en el género del terror, la fantasía oscura y la ciencia ficción.

Hill debutó con la colección de cuentos 20th Century Ghosts en 2005, que le valió diversos premios.
