Riding the Waves of Hawaiʻi, California and Memory

Tim works alone in the basement of a Hawaiʻi university library, combing eighties-era hard drives for a lost manuscript by the late Calvin Fritz, the poet laureate of California stoner fiction.  It's an impossible project, but a place where Tim can lose himself in other people's memories, since he can't seem to remember his own.  

With his surfer-therapist Lance, Tim rides the waves of present and past.  The author's widow Noelle is ready to move on with her life, and isn't sure she wants his lost work to be found.  People from his past don't want moments from their lives sold or mistold just because Calvin Fritz happened to become famous. 

From the Honolulu few tourists ever see, to the San Fernando Valley, Zuma Beach and the San Francisco Bay Area, Tim peels back the layers of their intertwined stories, and is forced to confront his own lost memories.  Finding the manuscript would be the achievement of Tim's life.  But should all stories be told?  And who gets to tell them?
