Michael MacIver is not sure what’s going on in the small Washington State town where he grew up. He was called home after the tragic death of his father, brother, and sister-in-law. He never expected to become Laird of the MacIver clan, as that role was to have gone to his older brother. But with the death of both his brother and his father, the last Laird, the title passed to Michael. His ancestral Scottish castle and the village that surrounded it were moved to America by Michael’s great–great–grandfather. The resident ghosts came along and never left. Many have been there for centuries. Michael soon finds that the title of Laird came with problems. His clan is facing economic difficulties, and opening the castle to the public is a plan that was launched before the accident. Now, for the sake of his family and the clan, Michael needs to decide how to make this radical plan a success. He’s also seeking custody of Olivia MacIver, his infant niece and the sole survivor of the accident that took the lives of her parents and grandfather. If the castle is going to be turned into a hotel and many more visitors will be coming to the village, what about the ghosts? No one asked them for their permission to make the changes, and some are not happy about being overlooked. Michael needs to get them all on board, or things will never work out. While Michael is trying to sort out these problems, Heather MacTavish, along with her two best friends, Char and Cooper, are facing a major decision regarding their careers. Do they continue to work at the marketing firm of Spencer and Reynolds under their horrid supervisor, who insults them and steals the credit and bonuses that belong to them? Or do they leave and strike out on their own? It’s a huge risk, but one they’re willing to take.
