Arthur and Mordred, rival leaders of an emerging nation, have just died, each at the hands of the other. Britain finds itself leaderless, divided and vulnerable. For the good of the country, a new ruler must unite Scots, Welsh and Romano-British, but this time it must be done by diplomacy and not by arms.

In the board game The King is Dead Second Edition, you will play one of the members of King Arthur's court. Whether you represent a loyal knight, a scheming lord or a noblewoman, all players will have one thing in common: power. As eventual leaders, players will use their power to benefit the various factions in order to gain influence for their cause.

The player who gains the most influence over the most powerful faction will be crowned the new king of Britain. But beware, because a new threat arrives from across the sea. If a region is not clearly controlled by one of the factions, that area will be vulnerable to invasion by the Saxons. When four regions succumb to the Saxons, the search for the new king will be immediately interrupted, and the player who has contributed most to the unity of the factions will become the new leader of the resistance.
