Jean Giono (Manosque, 1895–1970) fue un destacado escritor francés cuya obra se caracteriza por su profundo amor por la naturaleza y su enfoque en la vida rural de la Provenza. Autodidacta y pacifista convencido tras su experiencia en la Primera Guerra Mundial, Giono desarrolló una narrativa lírica y humanista que lo convirtió en una figura central de la literatura francesa del siglo XX.

Entre sus obras más reconocidas se encuentran Colina (1929), Regreso al amor (1930), Un rey sin diversión (1947), El húsar en el tejado (1951) y El hombre que plantaba árboles (1953). Su novela Colina recibió el premio Brentano en 1929, y Regreso al amor obtuvo el premio Northcliffe en 1930. En 1954, fue elegido miembro de la Academia Goncourt, y en 1953 recibió el Premio Literario Prince-Pierre-de-Mónaco por el conjunto de su obra.
