The Octopus Rescue (en Inglés) - Olivia Fang

Strong, it turns out, is not the same as gentle. Rebuilding her season from scratch, Maya stumbles into the strange, squishy science of soft robotics: fingers cast from silicone that curl without a single motor, machines you can fix with a sewing machine. With a scrappy new team - a boy who feeds stray cats, a girl who can sew anything, and a six-year-old demolition expert - she starts building machines that respond instead of crush.

Then a kitten gets stuck deep in a storm drain, down a pipe too small for any person and too curved for any pole, with a storm coming. No rescuer can reach her. But the ocean solved this problem millions of years ago - the solution is called an octopus. Maya's team has one chance to build an arm that pours itself down the pipe and holds on gently enough to matter. It might cost them everything they wanted this season.

The first book in The Soft Robot Squad series, The Octopus Rescue is a fully illustrated STEM adventure about real engineering: testing, failing, measuring, and trying again. Includes "How Maya's Robots Really Work," a kid-safe Build It Yourself project, and Maya's glossary of engineering words worth knowing.

For readers 9-12 who like their heroes curious and their robots soft.
