The subject of Project Management has variously been academically dealt with under the disciplines of Mathematics and Management. However, when an engineer is entrusted with responsibility of actually managing an industrial project he/she often finds himself/herself in a situation similar to that which an expert of thermodynamics, mechanical and/or automobileengineering may be when he/she is entrusted with a responsibility of driving an automobile without having ever tried his/her hand on it. The aim of author and contributor in writing this book has been to provide a good enough glimpse of real life situations that pose challenges to project manager.Management of industrial project also calls for dealing with people - some of whom may be employed in execution of the project, others may be those living in vicinity to project area, still others may be part of various authorities having jurisdiction in the area where the project is located. There are many other people who are required to make substantial contributions to the project by way of supplying goods, materials, parts of plant and machinery and other services.Then there are certain tricks of the trade and certain minor though very important aspects that though are technical in nature but are not detailed enough in the drawings released for construction. Such details are called "to suit the site" and it is more often than not that incorporation of such details is messed up by the workmen and calls for large instances ofreworking just to mitigate the detrimental effects of use of free-will by workmen without caring for consequences.Furthermore, anything that is ever started and carried on successfully has to come to a conclusion. Industrial projects too need to be properly closed after being started and completed. There are various important aspects of properly closing a project after it is completed successfully.There is much more to make use of but mentioning all that would be nothing but repeating the entire book.This book is intended to take the reader on a journey through various aspects of industrial project execution from beginning to end and the author has put up best efforts to equip the reader with skills needed for ensuring successful and meritorious completion of projects.
