Günter Grass (Danzig, 1927–Lübeck, 2015) fue un influyente escritor, poeta, dramaturgo y artista visual alemán. Su obra se caracteriza por una profunda crítica social y política, abordando temas como la memoria histórica y la identidad alemana. Su novela más reconocida, El tambor de hojalata (1959), inauguró la Trilogía de Danzig, seguida por El gato y el ratón (1961) y Años de perro (1963). Otras obras destacadas incluyen El rodaballo (1977) y A paso de cangrejo (2002).

En 1999, recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura, siendo el octavo autor alemán en obtenerlo. Su literatura, enmarcada en el movimiento de la "Vergangenheitsbewältigung" (afrontamiento del pasado), combina elementos de realismo mágico con sátira y crítica social.
