Reseña del libro "The Way Back (en Inglés)"

Dr. Mariah White is a gifted trauma surgeon who has spent her career saving lives inside the controlled walls of Boston General. But after losing a young patient who dies before rescuers can get her to the operating room, Mariah begins to question whether the problem isn't the care waiting at the hospital—but how long it takes that care to reach the people who need it. Taking a three-month leave from Boston, Mariah travels to the Adirondacks to train in search and rescue under Victor Flemming, a veteran rescuer who has spent most of his life in the mountains. Vic is demanding, stubborn, and convinced that medical expertise means little in the wilderness without the skills to survive long enough to use it. Mariah is equally stubborn and determined to prove him wrong. As the training grows more difficult, their constant clashes slowly become respect, friendship, and an attraction neither can ignore. Along the way, Mariah discovers something she never expected: a community, a new purpose, and a place in the mountains that begins to feel remarkably like home. When training ends, Mariah and Vic finally give in to their feelings—but their first night together ends with an argument neither knows how to resolve. Vic's life is in the Adirondacks. Mariah's career and future are in Boston. Hurt and unwilling to sacrifice everything she has built, Mariah leaves. Then, on the drive home, she hears a radio report that Vic has disappeared during a rescue. Mariah turns the car around. What begins as a search for the man she loves becomes a brutal fight for survival when Mariah is attacked by a black bear and suffers a life-threatening injury. Already badly hurt himself, Vic must use every skill he possesses to keep her alive while an unexpected early-season blizzard buries the Adirondacks beneath feet of snow. But Vic cannot save them alone. As his own injuries worsen and his body begins to fail, the roles of rescuer and victim blur. Mariah must rely on everything Vic taught her, while Vic's longtime friends and fellow rescuers, Dave Spinster and Burt Duster, battle the storm to find them. The Way Back is a story of survival, sacrifice, friendship, and love, and the realization that home isn't always a place. Sometimes it's the people willing to fight beside you, carry you when you can't walk, and make sure you never have to find the way back alone.
