Reseña del libro "The Will of May (en Inglés)"

May Sullivan is a very down to earth, somewhat alternative woman who, in her latter years, is fiercely protecting her right to self-sufficiency and freedom of choice. She has recently had a couple of strokes, but these have not prevented her from living alone and pursuing her interests of painting and gardening, which she prioritizes far above housework. Her daughters, Rebecca and Amy are concerned about May's wellbeing. They are using the strokes, and the state of the house, to pressure her into moving to a facility which provides accommodation and care for someone of her age. However, May has a wicked sense of humour which she uses to stave off any threat her daughters may make to her independence. Indeed, her life has been far from dull since the strokes. She spends time at the markets where she sells her paintings, often to repeat clients. May expresses her sexuality through her relationships with Craig, a much younger man, and Stanley, an old school friend. She survives a home invasion, a serious traffic accident caused by road rage, witnesses a murder, and gives evidence in court. She is also providing the primary support for her granddaughter, Ruby, who is a victim of domestic violence. Although age starts to close in on May, she remains staunch in protecting her right to independent choice, exercising that right when, with the help of Len, a friend from the markets, she makes a major life changing decision. One woman's fight against societal expectations.
