I run into burning buildings with ease. I can dive headfirst into the worst moments of someone's life and instantly know how to control the situation.

The chaos doesn't scare me. 

Fire follows rules. People don't.

Especially Emily Haines.

That woman doesn't know what rules are, much less follow any. From the moment she stormed into my life with that crazy dog of hers, she's given me nothing but attitude. One minute she's arguing with me, the next she's laughing and acting like she's always belonged in my world. Taking up all the free space in my head and my heart. 

The problem is, I don't do complicated. I don't do relationships. But when Emily falls into trouble from her past, protecting her becomes my only obsession and blurring every line I swore I'd never cross.
