Elena Poniatowska (París, 1932), escritora y periodista mexicana de origen franco-polaco, llegó a México a los nueve años huyendo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tras estudiar en un internado religioso en EE.UU., inició su carrera en el periódico Excelsior y se consolidó como una voz clave del periodismo y la literatura en español. Fundadora de medios como La Jornada y revistas como Fem, combinó su labor literaria con el activismo social y feminista. Autora de obras emblemáticas como La noche de Tlatelolco (crónica del movimiento estudiantil de 1968) y novelas como Leonora (sobre Leonora Carrington), ha recibido premios como el Cervantes (2013), el Alfaguara (2001) y el Rómulo Gallegos (2007). Sus obras abarcan novela, ensayo, poesía y literatura infantil, siempre con un compromiso por la justicia y la memoria histórica.
