Václav Havel (1936–2011) fue un dramaturgo, ensayista y pensador político checo cuya obra combinó lucidez moral, ironía y una crítica frontal al totalitarismo. Vinculado al teatro del absurdo, sus primeras piezas —como La fiesta del jardín o El memorándum— retratan la alienación burocrática y el lenguaje como instrumento de poder. Paralelamente, sus ensayos cívicos lo convirtieron en una de las voces más lúcidas de la disidencia en Europa del Este, con El poder de los sin poder como texto clave sobre responsabilidad individual y verdad frente a la opresión.

Tras la Revolución de Terciopelo, Havel pasó de disidente perseguido a presidente de Checoslovaquia y luego de la República Checa, sin abandonar su vocación intelectual. Recibió, entre otros reconocimientos, el Premio Sájarov del Parlamento Europeo y el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Cooperación Internacional. Su legado une ética, política y literatura con una coherencia poco común.
