I wrote this book as a guide to the beginning high school and intercollegiate college sailor. As a sailing coach at Arizona State University, I found that out of the forty students who signed up for the team one semester, only four or five had a sailing background and limited at that. I saw a need for an easy-to-read and easy-to-understand book that would not bore the reader to death with sailing terms that didn't apply to the beginner sailor. My goal is to make sailing a successful venture not only for the beginner, but for the sailor who wants to sharpen up on their sailing terms. This book will give you a good foundation for going to the next level. I made the flash cards simple, with pictures of every item, to make it easy to understand what you are looking at. Get familiar with the basic terms of the boat and rigging and also know every part of your sails. Please remember that you can have some good times here. Times that you will remember your whole life, but you will also have the fun of sailing, a skill that you will enjoy for a lifetime. I was given boat flashcards when I was eight, not knowing where it would take me. This is the beginning for you. I wonder where it will take you. Enjoy. You deserve it.
