As he grows up, the true meaning of life becomes evident and the story comes full circle. This is a story that emphasizes gentleness, diversity, and acceptance in a world so desperately in need of such values. It also has a lyrical element to it as well with a verse mingled into the story. I have been an educator for more than a decade and have wrestled with how to teach young people the true meaning of humanity and human rights. This story is a good approach to this task because of its meaningful message and beautiful illustrations. When We Holds Hands will bring about an emotional catharsis for both reader and audience.
