WORDS is intended to help you increase your word power and, hopefully, develop a love for words.OverviewThe textbook is divided into six units of study.-Unit 1, Introduction to Words, Lesson 1, discusses dictionary usage. -Unit 2, Prefixes, Suffixes, and Roots, Lessons 2-10, discusses the meanings of common prefixes, suffixes, and roots and their use in producing a variety of words. -Unit 3, Spelling Guidelines, Lessons 11-13, presents guidelines for adding prefixes and suffixes to words and for spelling troublesome words. -Unit 4, Word Confusions, Lessons 14-16, discusses homonyms and other words that are frequently misused. -Unit 5, Vocabulary Expansion, Lessons 17-22, presents vocabulary words related to business, computer technology, law, medicine, and government and includes new and emerging words-Unit 6, Extra Word Power, Lessons 23-25, presents additional nouns, verbs, and adjectives that are worth knowing. Textbook Features-Self-Check Exercises. Each lesson contains self-check exercises that allow students to determine their comprehension of the material presented in the lesson. -Key to Self-Check Exercises. A key to the Self-Check exercises is included in the text, which enables students to have immediate feedback.-Keyboarding/Shorthand Activities. Each lesson contains a keyboarding or shorthand activity. Students may elect to keyboard material or write material in shorthand and transcribe their notes-particularly important to court reporting students.-Unit Reviews. Each unit contains a self-checked review, which allows students to test their mastery of the unit.
