His systematic attempt to outline a psycho-physical technique for acting single-handedly revolutionized standards of acting in the theatre. Some of the mistranslations have resulted in profound distortions in the way his system has been interpreted and taught. At last, Jean Benedetti has succeeded in translating Stanislavski’s huge manual into a lively, fascinating and accurate text in English. Konstantín Stanislavski (1863-1938) fue un actor, director y pedagogo teatral ruso, reconocido por desarrollar un revolucionario método de actuación basado en la naturalidad y la introspección emocional. Cofundador del Teatro de Arte de Moscú en 1898, su trabajo influyó profundamente en la interpretación moderna, dando origen a técnicas utilizadas en el teatro y el cine contemporáneo. Su enfoque buscaba que los actores vivieran sus personajes desde la verdad emocional, sentando las bases del realismo escénico.

Entre sus obras más influyentes se encuentra Un actor se prepara (1936), parte de su trilogía sobre su método actoral. Otras publicaciones fundamentales son La construcción del personaje (1949) y La creación de un papel (1957), en las que expone sus ideas sobre la interpretación y el entrenamiento actoral. Su obra pertenece al género de teoría y pedagogía teatral.
