Richard Scarry (Boston, 1919 – Gstaad, 1994) fue un autor e ilustrador estadounidense, célebre por sus libros infantiles protagonizados por animales antropomórficos. A lo largo de su carrera, publicó más de 300 títulos, vendiendo más de 100 millones de ejemplares en todo el mundo. Su obra se caracteriza por ilustraciones detalladas y coloridas que introducen a los niños en conceptos básicos de vocabulario, profesiones y vida cotidiana.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran El gran libro de las palabras (Best Word Book Ever, 1963), ¿Qué hacen las personas todo el día? (What Do People Do All Day?, 1968) y Todos al trabajo (Busy, Busy Town), que forman parte de la serie ambientada en la ficticia Feliciudad (Busytown). Sus libros han sido traducidos a más de 20 idiomas y adaptados a series animadas, como El mundo divertido de Richard Scarry. En 2012, recibió póstumamente el Premio a la Trayectoria de la Society of Illustrators de Nueva York.
