Fiódor Dostoyevski fue un novelista, ensayista y pensador ruso, nacido en Moscú el 11 de noviembre de 1821 y fallecido en San Petersburgo el 9 de febrero de 1881. Es considerado uno de los más grandes escritores de la literatura universal por su profunda exploración de la psicología humana, la moral y los conflictos existenciales.

Estudió ingeniería militar, pero abandonó esa carrera para dedicarse a la literatura. Su primera novela, Pobres gentes (1846), le dio reconocimiento inmediato. Sin embargo, su vida estuvo marcada por la tragedia: fue arrestado en 1849 por participar en un grupo intelectual considerado subversivo y condenado a muerte, aunque la pena fue conmutada por trabajos forzados en Siberia. Esta experiencia transformó profundamente su visión del mundo y su pensamiento religioso y moral.

A su regreso, escribió algunas de las obras más influyentes de la literatura moderna, como Crimen y castigo, El idiota, Los demonios y Los hermanos Karamázov. En ellas aborda temas como la culpa, la redención, la libertad y el sentido de la existencia.
