Jean Giono (Manosque, 1895–1970) fue un destacado escritor francés cuya obra se caracteriza por su profundo amor por la naturaleza y su enfoque en la vida rural de la Provenza. Autodidacta y pacifista convencido tras su experiencia en la Primera Guerra Mundial, Giono desarrolló una narrativa lírica y humanista que lo convirtió en una figura central de la literatura francesa del siglo XX.

Entre sus obras más reconocidas se encuentran Colina (1929), Regreso al amor (1930), Un rey sin diversión (1947), El húsar en el tejado (1951) y El hombre que plantaba árboles (1953).
