The family surname of Buist has a long lineage going back through the mists of the ages in Scotland. The surname is derived from the old Scottish word buist or boist, which means wood or someone that lived by a wood. The earliest known record of the Buist family appears in the year of 1564 when James Buist the Elder married Janet Huton at Dunfermline Abbey in Dunfermline Parish in the Kingdom of Fife. This union produced six children all of whom were born and raised in Dunfermline Parish. Thusly the modern day family members are descended from James Buist the Elder. This is the most complete and comprehensive book written to date on this illustrious and ancient family of Fife. Over 40 years information was researched and now assembled on the history of this Scottish family covering 13 generations spanning over four hundred years. This work includes biographies and photographs of Buist forebears as well as encompassing the present day living descendants. These are the records of our ancestors and it is to their memories that this work is lovingly dedicated for all time.
