But Maximus's nerve breaks at the critical point, allowing the enemy leader, Caratacus, and his men to escape. Outraged by this failure, General Plautius orders the annihilation of the unit. Their choice: die or escape to become fugitives pursued by soldiers of their own ruthless army. Escritor británico nacido en Nigeria, Simon Scarrow vivió en varios países antes de residir en Reino Unido. Se licenció en Magisterio en la Universidad East Anglia y, tras trabajar para el organismo de hacienda Inland Revenue, ocupó un puesto como profesor en el City College de Norwich.

Scarrow comenzó a publicar en el año 2000, y en el 2005, tras el éxito conseguido con sus primeras novelas, abandonó su trabajo diario para dedicarse a la escritura por completo.

Scarrow es autor de novelas de ficción histórica, la mayoría de ellas desarrolladas en el Imperio Romano, aunque también ha escrito sobre Bonaparte y el duque de Wellington en su serie Revolución.

De entre su obra habría que destacar títulos como El águila del Imperio, Centurión, El gladiador o Cuervos sangrientos, entre otros.
