Autor y periodista italiano, Donato Carrisi estudió Derecho, especializándose en Criminología y Ciencia del Comportamiento. Colabora de forma habitual con el diario Il Corriere della Sera, actividad que compagina con la escritura, tanto de novelas como de guiones y obras de teatro.

Como guionista ha destacado por su labor para la RAI, Mediaset o Sky, donde ha escrito para varias series de género negro. Es precisamente dentro del mundo criminal y de la mafia donde ha logrado un gran éxito con sus novelas.

De su producción literaria habría que destacar Lobos, libro con el que logró hacerse con el prestigioso Premio Bancarella y que años después se reeditó en España como El susurrador. Con él comenzó la serie Mila Vasquez, compuesta por otros libros como La hipótesis del mal o El juego del susurrador.

En 2017 dirigió la película La chica en la niebla, basada en su propia novela.
