Woven throughout the story is the family element of raising four daughters in the make-believe atmosphere of Southern California.As the two Ephrons worried about the work they'd done on one major script, the make-believe turning into a glorious reprieve when it was reported to them that Darryl Zanuck had just told a friend, I'll never know how the Ephrons took that old chestnut and turned it into this great screenplay.Here, a professional storyteller is at his best in a personal narrative which also brings onstage a fascinating supporting cast.

Nora Ephron (Nueva York, 1941-2012) fue escritora, productora, guionista y directora de cine. Ephron comenzó su carrera profesional escribiendo en periódicos y revistas. Con Ensalada loca (1975) obtuvo un resonante éxito de crítica, que puede resumirse en el comentario de Patrick Owens: «Un libro absolutamente sensacional.» Una infidelidad de su primer marido, Carl Bernstein, uno de los periodistas que destaparon la trama del escándalo Watergate, inspiró su novela Se acabó el pastel, que posteriormente se adaptó al cine para la película homónima que dirigió Mike Nichols y que fue protagonizada por Jack Nicholson y Meryl Streep. Ambos libros se han publicado en Anagrama. Escribió el guión de Cuando Harry encontró a Sally, y dirigió películas como Algo para recordar, Tienes un e-mail, Colgadas, Embrujada y Julie y Julia. Dos años antes de morir vio la luz su último libro, No me acuerdo de nada, traducido al castellano y al catalán en 2022.
